KUNICHIKA (1835-1900)

Ichikawa Danjuro IX as Kibidaijin
Signed: Kunichika hitsu
Series: 100 Roles of Danjuro IX
Publisher: Fukuda Kumajiro

Very good impression and colors. Album backing. Mica and gaufrage effects.

Kibi Daijin is part of the grouping of plays known as the Shin Kabuki Juhachiban. This compilation was created by Danjuro IX as an addendum to the previously formed Kabuki Juhachiban.   Although Juhachiban really means “18” the Kabuki Juhachiban was such an iconic title/grouping that it was used here by Danjuro IX to mean “best”.  These 2 lists can almost be considered a cornerstone of the modern Kabuki.
