Ohara Koson (Shoson) is usually considered to be the best Japanese nature print artist of the 20th century. His later works (as here) are signed Shoson.
The tancho, or red crowned Japanese Crane, Grus japonensis, is the second rarest crane in the world, migrating to East Asia in the fall to spend the winter. There is also a resident flock in eastern Hokkaido.
