KIYONAGA  (1752-1815)

Mother and Family Watching Turtles
Signed:  Kiyonaga ga
c 1785

A mother carrying a baby on her back stops on a bridge so that the child can watch the turtles swimming.  The mother’s younger sister is supporting the baby’s back and a young Kozo  behind is clapping his hands to attract the turtles.   The beauty, elegance and grace of Kiyonaga’s line in this print show why he has always been considered one of the best (if not the best) of all Japanese print artists.

Very good impression with good colors. Very good condition. Vever collectors seal on front. Collectors seal verso.
