Hokuba made a large number of preparatory drawings for what appears to be a series of prints that was never made.
Horai, the mythical island of the immortals, is frequently shown as a giant rock. The Dragon King’s sacred jewels controlled the tides. The minogame (raincoat) turtle’s “tail” is seaweed that over the centuries has attached itself to the carapace (shell) of the ancient creature.
